He didn't transform that one staff he was holding into another orb because there were already six. He probably threw it like he did with the other staff.

I only see him having seven orbs and two rods. If I'm correct, it confirms that an entire staff can be transformed into an entire orb, and vice-versa.
^ Plus it would kinda make sense too considering he can have 9 orbs in total and that correlates to 9 Bijuu, with each orb representing each Bijuu in some way.

It's the opposite actually; look at the position of the tailwind on the left of the stick, if he was throwing it, the tailwind would be shown on the right side.

Yeah you are right - it was his pole. I just saw Madara transforming one of his orbs into a staff while reading the chapter again. So it was his to begin with.
But, Naruto did had two staffs. Just look at the beginning of the chapter and you can see him throwing one to absorb that lightning Jutsu Madara used (in fact, you can even see him holding two before that).
For those who haven't noticed it yet, one of Naruto's Truth-seeking orbs distorted in shape after Naruto (with the help of Shukaku) formed that Magnet Style Rasengan.
