Didn't Madara say that he died shortly after getting rinnegan? (please correct me if I am wrong). If so how does Madara know Nagato?

What? Nagato didn't even know he had it when he was a kid until he awakened it. Plus it toke him years to master it,along with training with J-man. Tobi probably trained him as well.

I think Zetsu is the key. When Madara said this is all "HIS" doing I believe he was referring to Zetsu. I think Zetsu is a product of Madara's and Harishima's battle. I believe before he died he gave Zetsu orders and Zetsu has beentrying to get the moon eye plan to work ever since. Maybe Zetsu had Madara's eyes and gave them to Nagato, like Tobi said. How did Tobi know, either he read it in the uchilia underground area or Zetsu told him. How did Madara know the kids name was Nagato? Maybe Madara told Zetsu to make sure he had that name. This is all speculation and theory, but its the best guess, I got!

Madara knew who Nagato was, he even referred to him as "brat". He must have died when Nagato was very young
