It is an interesting thought and might even be highly relevant!
The combinations, a bird's wings+human, a bat's wings+human and the fact that birds have been somewhat important creatures, religiously, may very well point to how it could be.
When you think about it, besides bird poop, they also have their singing, which we also, most of the times, consider beautiful. Maybe it is all an aspiration to make the two seem as beautiful and ugly as possible, as good and as bad as possible, that they use animals which they consider to be either!
It's a very good idea Swizzik!

Yeah even animals are really important in religion even christianity seeing as a snake caused the down fall of humanity. Maybe certain attributes of the snake were attributed to it like a long tongue meant it was a good liar?

The thoughts and ideas about these can be many, you can even find relations to animal traits in everyday language, but when it comes to snakes one mustn't forget that some ARE quite dangerous, so it's logical how it plays the 'evil' part in many stories, even those of non-religious nature.
Can't say I've heard anything about the tongue being long relating to anything, but in my language there is another thing about the tongue, the fact that its tongue is split in two, with which we want to say that someone has his/her ways with words I.e. is a good liar.
It's just a small difference, but the meaning is the same, so I guess it is okay to conclude that animals contribute to this as well. The difference between a bat and a bird's wings, that is.

In about every culture Snakes are thought to be slippery, evil, golden tongued, and liars. I think it predates religion back when we were nomads chasing mammoths.
