According to my sources, Orochimaru's main hideout, the Northern Hideout is close to the shorelines of this area.

So who are these "Guinea Pigs" from Kirikagure Zetsu mentioned? In my opinion they could be Hidden Sound Nin with Curse Mark, like those prisoners with Juugo.

Or it could be Orochimaru's underlings. He is shown to have underlings in the Land of Mist.

The part when Suigetsu and Sasuke was looking for the Nothern Hideout, they took the long mile and walked on water instead.

I'd say this place is close to a shore in the Northern Hemisphere. Very easy...

And Madara's hideout location was revealed in the Shinobi Alliance Arc when they explained the formations and tactics.

Northern Hideout, by its surroundings, its close to the sea in the northern side, this was Orochimaru's Major Hideout, considering the Land of Sound is easily close to access for his experiments.

Madara's Hideout, it was revealed in the manga during the war.
