Something I don't understand

I apologise if this is an obvious answer, but why was Madara able to use Susanno with his Rinnegan? I thought it deactivated once you reach that point. Do all Uchiha retain their MS/EMS abilities once they activate the Rinnegan or is it just a one off in Madara's case?

Rinnegan is his EMS so he can use Susanoo too

Rinnegan is a evolution of the EMS. It makes perfect sense that the user ( madara in this case ) would be able to switch back in between of which ever Dojutsu he wants to use. Going by madara I'd say all uchihas retain their MS/EMS abilities after they attain Rinnegan. I see no reason why they would lose their MS/EMS abilities just because they upgraded to a new dojutsu.

Despite the difference in appearance, it is the same eye. Therefore, Rinnegan users who evolved from EMS can still use EMS techniques.
