Something about Itachi

So I've been going back to Pre shippuden and rewatching old episodes.

So, Itachi massacred his clan. Then, he told sasuke he let him live so that he can pass judgement on him.
We know that itachi loved sasuke. Itachi was also shocked (for some reason) when he heard sasuke *was going back to konoha to destroy it.

Itachi Loved sasuke, and he wanted sasuke to judge him for the uchiha clan massacre. He made sasuke hate and resent him so that sasuke would unlock the full potentials of the sharingan. But, Did he go about it the correct way? I mean, Sasuke use to be fairly happy. During the first half, before leaving konoha, he admitted to naruto(during VotE fight) that he considered naruto his best friend then. He considered sakura and everyone else his comrades. But, then, Itachi came into konoha to make his presence be known to danzo, and along with this he decided to use a tsukuyomi on sasuke to make him re-live that horrible night. Then he goes on to tell sasuke that he doesn't have enough hate. He needs more hate. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.

So, My question is: Itachi did all this to sasuke. Itachi tortured sasuke, and went on to borderline sadism. Why did itachi ever think that sasuke would not be completely screwed up? Sasuke would have been better off i itachi killed off the clan and then brought sasuke with me. Atleast then, sasuke would be a wanted criminal. But atleast a happy wanted criminal. Not a confused, miserable criminal.

tl;dr; Why did itachi think that torturing sasuke woul dhave resulted in anything good.

He did it because hate fuels the sharingan,as tobirama explained.So if he hated Itachi even more he would awaken even greater powers,like the MS....

Hate does/trauma. That's why he wanted him to hate him.
But, Even if we could say he did it so that sasuke would have been strong enough to protect himself, sasuke could've done that around itachi. Infact he'd have been safer since no one generally messes with itachi without good reason.

I really don't get it either, Itachi should not have ever tortured Sasuke with Tsukuyomi. Murdering the clan should easily have been enough to make Sasuke want revenge.

Exactly. He pushed it so far. What was the point. The guy was happy. He could have stayed in konoha and grown stronger. Avenge his clan, and go back to konoha to live peacefully. Itachi effectively ****ed his own plan up with tsukuyomi because as soon as he did that, sasuke ran off to orochipedo for power.

What Itachi wanted was for Sasuke to return to the leaf after he killed him and Sasuke would be a hero. That plan probably would have worked if Tobi hadn't interfered.

It was an asspull short and simple. Itachi should have always stayed evil. At least he would be likeable.

I just can't see how itachi ever thought this would have been a good idea. Completely traumatizing your young brother and throwing him into hate... did he really think sasuke would say "Ah, I've built up enough hate over the years to unlock MS. Now that itachi's dead, I only feel love in my heart. Peaaceee everyone. Right on"

Tho itachi has ready admitted that this decision was wrong.

He should have just let sasuke find his own way to power. Not creating a path for sasuke. It would have ended better if he never would have came back to the village we would probably have a different sasuke.

He had to.. to let Danzo know that he still alive and not to harm sasuke. Read the manga

I know and understand. But did he not think sasuke wouldn't seek him out. And also why tsukuyomi him again. Itachis decisions are horrible. As smart as he is you would think he'd make better choices.

kishi clearly did not intend for itachi to go good until later in the series where it was too late to really 'fix' his character.

yeah he gave sasuke zero chance to be normal really. especially since it was revealed that itachi knew about the curse of hatred... how could he have hoped that sasuke would ever turn out good? he basically created the next madara by taking away everything that sasuke loved. then he talks to naruto about how sasuke is easily manipulated... well no shit. his plan for sasuke including ka was horribly thought out, he may have done it all for sasuke and the village but imo if he'd left him alone he'd be way better off. his rivalry with naruto and desire for revenge would have been more than enough to grow sasuke strong imo. itachi grew perfectly with the will of fire
