Hi.

I'd like to discuss something, actually, I'd like to ask you, and criticizw something in this thread. It is related to people changing the main social network that they are using all the time.

Let's get a prime exemple: The death of MSN(messenger) with people going to facebook because it was cooler.
You must be registered for see images

Recently, a new app avaible to all systems in the smartphones(wp, android and IOS) started to be really used by many people here in my country, it's whatsapp.

The app is quite usefull, indeed. Most people nowadays have internet in their cellphones, so using whatsapp is way to save money by not sending people SMS. Not only that, but you can put a lot of peope in an specific group, send images, voice recordings, videos, etc.
And I thought: oh, great, I'm going to save some money.

But then I noticed: People started to enter way less on facebook. People just went to facebook sto see some pics, post something important, and then they would leave, whereas in the past, they'd stay all day.
And these people are now using whatsapp constantly to talk to each other, instead of the facebook chat.

In my opinion, this is a pain the ass, people were there, and now it's difficult to talk to everybody(to me) becaue I have to get everybody's number, use the app all the time, something I was planning to use only to send something like an SMS.

And now, I got a question. Why the f*ck can't people stay in their f*cking social network for more than 2 years? They always have to change this sh*t to something "cooler", simply because it's f*cking new. WHAT THE F*CK?
What's with the inability to stick with one sh*t, one f*cking social network? Is it so hard? And then, people are going to change this sh*t again in 2 years, if we're lucky.
Ah, F*CK. It's almost the same sh*t as the other network, and everybody already has their contacts and etc in the previous one, so WHY? WHY change it all the f*cking time? For how long will we keep doing this?

Hey, things change. Way of life. I don't see Facebook or Twitter going away for awhile, but one day, yeah, they'll be beaten by someone else. Just enjoy what's hot now.

My Facebook network is still very active, depends on your friends list really (i.e. how many you talk to and quantity).

Whatsapp isn't even a social network because it's functions as a SMS/MMS service.

You can't compare MSN/Whatsapp to Facebook/Twitter because the latter is a network of people melanging.

That's the problem. Unnecessary changes are UNNECESSARY. Why change to something that's basically the same thing as before? WHY?
Ah, f*ck, man.

WhatsApp is way better than FB in messages, the whole freaking country(Lebanon) uses it lol. Anyways, the reason is simple, evolution. Also people want to make money z.z If you were given the option to stay using the same old platform or you can create a new one to profit from it, would you not choose to make a profit z.z?

Thing is, Facebook does a lot more and is still far more used:

Whatsapp active users: 190,000,000
Facebook active users: 1,300,000,000

(December 2013 for both)

Whatsapp is tiny compared to Facebook.

At the end of the day, a simple IM and full blown social networking services are not to be compared.

IM service:

-PM'ing (Sending pics/vids)

Social Network

- PM'ing (Sending pics/vids)
- Public messaging
- Public status updates
- Social gaming
- Apps

People with less friends will probably benefit more from Whatsapp but for those who have a larger social circle, Facebook is more rewarding.

Why don't they just improve the same thing? I mean, I barely notice any difference when using thw whatsapp in my cellphone and the facebook chat in my cellphones.
So why don't they just improve facebook instead? It's way better than changing the social network every year.

Quality over quantity, I find the WhatsApp messaging by far better, faster, and more efficient.

But people shouldn't go. I mean, really. There's barely any difference. You're using them to comunitca to each other. You wirte something, and BAM, the other person sees it.
More than enough to me.

WhatsApp is hip and new, that's all it takes for people to get it, even though their is something similar.

Useless for a lot people though if very few of their friends even have it, and in reality, it's not that popular here in England.

Out of my closer circle, the fraction would be around 10/500.

Whatsapp home is mostly in lesser countries and honestly, Facebook is not lacking in quality so overall, it doesn't make sense to have in countries like mine and besides, Whatsapp isn't that good.

I can't submerge myself socially into an Instant Messenger anyway (i.e. I can't just login and get a summary of happenings in my friends, or even pages I've liked), so it's pointless.

Well that's for you, for me the ones that I actually want to talk to have WhatsApp. Regarding it's effectivity it depends on what you want from it. The app wasn't designed for you to get a summary of what your friends are doing or updates on the pages you've liked, it' for I.M point blank. You can't expect it do what you've given as examples, it does what it should do which is I.M. It' like saying a submarine is pointless since it doesn't fly or work on land, same for cars and planes in regards to water travel.

Point is, why have one that can only serve one function when you get that, plus everything else in one place?

But that's my point.hey should stop this behavior, using something just because it's new. If it's similar, what's the point? Mostly when it's about social networks. I mean, ah man, just stick with oen and use it, for God's sake.
It's a pain to change from 2 to 2 years jsut because people found something to be cooler.
Wanna see cooler? Watch dbz.

Human nature z.z? Also some people might simply not want to use Facebook, they will have an alternative.
