I also believe that he got it after the fight with the juubi, but since we can't prove it, we can only speculate. People have to realize the link between the Juubi and the Uchiha (Sharingan). The Juubi clearly has the sharingan and if you add senju dna to the sharingan, you get the rinnegan. Same as juubi (eyes ) + Sage (body - because he was the juubi's jinchuuriki)= Rinnegan.. But it can only be proven if the manga states this

If that was true then Madara would have needed the Juubi to unlock the Rinnegan, the fact that he didn't proves your theory wrong.

the juubi and so6p CREATED the senju and uchiha clan...madara had to connect two clans to get rinnegan, while juubi had it from the start

The sage defeated and sealed the juubi within himself... I don't believe he discovered chakra after that and started creating ninjutsu...
The lore says he was the first to see chakra in people and learn/teach others how to use it.... To do that he would need a doujutsu to be able to see that inside we had chakra......

What do you think he defeated the juubi with? If he had no rinnegan... If he was just a normal monk, who never knew about chakra, or had an arsenal of jutsu to use.... No preta path, human path, nothing... No chibaku tensei nada

That does not prove anything. Senju and Uchiha together is the Sage. His childeren's descendants became both clans...so with him they were once one.

That being said we don't have any proof as to whether he had them before or after, but I'm assuming before. Since he crested Ninjutsu he would have to had the use of every element. Of course it all depends on when he started teaching ninjutsu...

Summary: we have no proof of when he got the Rinnegan;therefore, we cannot say 100% one way or another
