The thing is that I have a problem with all these shonen animes/manga. Often the parent/s of the MC or a semi MC are not there until very far in the story and then they meet and it's all happily ever after.

I want to know why Dragon couldn't raise his own son when he raised some stranger and I hope for when the day comes Luffy absolutely blanks Dragon and gives 0 shits about him.Dragon's reason will probably be on the lines of "It was safer this way, I didn't want you to be targeted by the WG"

Just imagine that your real father leaves you and never visits, no matter the reason he should consider seeing him at least a few times a month especially when he seems so open to talking some fodder in the revolutionary army but apparently not a 500 million bounty conqueror's haki pirate?

Lol this happens in almost every Shonen.
My guess is that Dragon knew Luffy will be safer with Garp than with him.
Safer than being a 500 million beri pirate that challenged the WG and caused tremendous amount of havoc?

If I want him safe, I would have him with me so that I can train him and protect him myself. Luffy is safer with Dragon than the SH.

So that we'll have a plot, if Dragon raised him, he wouldn't have met Shanks, it's the same for most shounen mc's, if they have parents they won't be able to do whatever it is they are doing, since reasonable parents don't allow their children do dangerous things (especially when there's a very low chance of success, like there always is in manga). Iirc Oda even said that mothers are the farthest thing from adventures (in an interview)

I dunno why you're talking like Dragon is some kind of deadbeat dad who's gonna come crawling to Luffy. The two have shown pretty much the same level of interest in each other in the recent chapters, with Luffy caring more about Sabo's well-being and Dragon asking how Robin is doing and ignoring the report on Luffy.

When they meet, it's not gonna be some redeeming, "I'm so sorry I left you," crap, and that's obvious from they're "Yeah that's my son/dad, that's cool I guess." And Luffy isn't the type of guy to really go "Omg you didn't raise me how dare you," since both times his father was brought up to him he was casually like "Oh yeah I had one of those." If meeting up again with Sabo is any indication, being absent doesn't really matter to Luffy, since he was just glad to see him and didn't start throwing questions about where he'd been and why he didn't show up.

Both Luffy and Dragon seem too simple minded for that.

Rather Luffy following his dad into the world of the Revolutionaries. Dragon wanted Luffy to find his own course.

I think he said something to that effect @Loguetown

implying dragon didn't go see luffy every time it truly mattered.

he saved him from the fire that was happening in that garbage place and he saved him from being executed at louge town and then from smoker.

what more do you want? iffy is a pirate sailing the seas and dragon is busy fighting a war

My dad left me. It's just n***** ain't s***. You don't need a reason so much as an excuse.

Sabo had already told Dragon about Luffy.

Dragon, the head of a whole organisation that kept it's whereabouts top secret until just recently is simple minded? I agree with the rest of what you said up until that point. I think he'll share some aspects that the Monkey's do, but simple minded won't be one of them.

"If you choose to be a pirate, that's okay too"... Something like that I think.. Just re-reading One Piece again actually and I'm a few chapters on from that funnily enough. Just got out of Laboon if I can remember fully.

As for Luffy and Dragon, I actually think they'll have quite the bond when they meet, Dragon will say something along the line of you're just like your grandfather xD
