Well, to be honest my original theory was that Madara Uchiha somehow put his consciousness into a new body and that Kabuto had found his original body. But I don't think that's the case anymore. I'm pretty sure Madara Uchiha is dead and Tobi is an impostor.

But who could Tobi be???
Now I didn't feel like looking it up, but I'm pretty sure Tobi showed his face to Sasuke and Kisame. Sasuke wasn't shocked and Kisame knew who he was if I remember right.
At first I though Sasuke's dad, since he was the leader of the Uchiha rebellion. But Sasuke didn't seem to be shaken by seeing Tobi's face, so I'm not sure.(Also he and his wife were absent during the Nine Tails Incident, then again his wife seemed to be friends with Kushina Uzumaki)
Genjutsu does crazy things lol.

Anyway, there are a lot of candidates to choose from for Tobi! So I'm gonna make a list so that people can vote who they think Tobi really is:
(By the way most of the people I'm gonna name are dead, I just assume they used genjutsu to get away or something lol.)

Fugaku Uchiha: Sasuke's dad could've used some genjutsu(3rd Hokage)
Madara Uchiha: Maybe he did some weird body transfer thing and his soul is split in two, i unno lol(1st Hokage+)
Uchiha Clan Ancestor: Son of the Sage of the Six Paths(Pre-Hokage)
Setsuna Uchiha: plotted to take back the supremacy held by the Senju clan(2nd Hokage)
Obito Uchiha: Just for the sake of it lol(4th Hokage)
Kagami Uchiha:presumed dead(2nd Hokage+)
Hikaku Uchiha(Pre-Hokage)
Hashirama Senju: If Madara is dead, than the 1st Hokage killed him and was the first with the opportunity to take his eye. As evil as that sounds lol(1st Hokage)
Random Member of the Uzumaki Clan: when their village was destroyed they spread out in the world in all directions and they live very long lives(1st Hokage+)
Others: Cant think of all of them lol

Weird thing is, Madara Uchiha's dead resurrected body knows who Nagato is, but Nagato was a child when Jiraiya found him and Madara Uchiha was obviously killed in his 1st Hokage-Period clothing. So unless Nagato is some sort of Self-Resurrecting Uzumaki or something, it doesn't make sense.

I think Obito is Kagami Uchiha because I noticed that Kagami had the same hair style as Obito and that he was only presumed dead nothing concrete on whether he actually died or not.:cool:

Dear Thread-Opener,

I was also very interested in the question "who is behind Tobi".
Now we've all heard several theorys. I've been througt most of them.
Some are just... lets say... unable to be true - I think thats a kind way.

Now I made some research about the concept of Naruto itself.
You know that there are many parts of mythologie in this anime / manga.
Like Amaterasu, Susanoo and Tsukuyomi. EVen Izanami-no-Mikoto and his wife IZANAGI.

Now... I found MY theory-answer behind this little case. Myth.

I guess... Tobi is Madaras Brother, Izuna. But how comes?
I had to find some facts and looked up what Izuna means.

the Trivia said:

"Izuna (飯綱) is the name of a fox spirit in Japan and of a mountain. The latter is usually called Mount Iizuna, though. Iizuna, written with the same kanji, is also the Japanese name for the least weasel."

A Fox Spirit and a Mountain, aye?

Now I looked up about that mountain first and found this:

"This mountain is a sacred site for mountain-based religious sects such as Shugendo, and said to be the home of a tengu named Saburō."

The Home of a tengu, it says?

Now look what a tengu is and think about a fox-appearance

"Tengu are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore, art, theater, and literature. Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon (Tiangou), the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics. Myth tells that when they take human form, they have the ability to grow or shrink other human’s nose and when bird they are attributed the power to stir up great winds, they are known to be cannine monsters and most often it is fierce and anthropo****ous. It makes a noise like thunder and brings war wherever it falls. (Source)"

Lets take out SOME of those Myth-Stuff:

A supernatural thing, that changes into human forms(how ever it does) and brings WAR!

Actually there where many theorys of Izuna changing forms. However Tobi brought War, right?

Also I wanted to note this one here

Now can anyone post the "Plan" tobi has behind all his acts?

Review:

So a Tengu is a Fox-Appearance Demon, who transforms into any human form, brings war and trys to eat the sun. Which would mean never-ending darkness. He leaves on the mountain Izuna.

My english is an catastrophe, I know. Still I hope you understoof. If not? I hope someone did...

i think its somehow Shisui. his body is involved or something. He died way to easily and if he gave away both eyes before death, then it would make sense that Tobi is never seen with his sharingan deactivated because he would have needed implants. Shisui kills himself so no one can take his eyes and use his power? oh and he drowns himself? bullcrap. I think he pulled a fast one on Itachi, or Itachi was aware and Shisui put him in a genjutsu or something to kill off the clan because i think thats the only way Itachi could have accomplished it. Itachi was a good person, we dont know anything much about Shisui so it wouldnt surprise me if in order to accomplish this, he asked for Tobi's help, who was actually Shisui in disguise. Just my thoughts on it though..im sure theres a hole or two somewhere
