So what is the actual deal with Susanoo?

I'm kinda confused, is this like the actual God form of susanoo? Is it just a replacement for the gedo statute? And does this mean Sasuke has essentially become a vessel for all the bijuu chakra?

- He then contained that chakra within his susanoo, thus making it [or him?] a pseudo GM

- & Finally he merged his raiton chakra with it
