So what is canon? The manga or anime?

The manga makes numerous changes to the anime, omits a lot of pointless filler, adds a lot of charaterization and finer detail, and does so with superior art and creative direction.

But the anime is technically the original, so what is canon?

A major change in the manga is Goku never uses Kaio-Ken against Hit, which in my opinion is a smart move because now they're going to have to explain why Goku never uses it again after that point, which he probably won't. It also made Goku look like a blue raspberry ring pop, which was upsetting to me.

The manga has so far handled Zamasu's character way better, in introducing him to the plot and depicting his personality.

As a former DBZ fanatic I was disgusted by the direction Toei had taken the franchise, butchering the characters into unfunny parodies of themselves and shoehorning cringe worthy comic relief into every second of the already boring and ridiculous story Toriyama had penned for them.

But the manga is actual something I can respect as a story the same way I did the original series, Toyotaru has a clear understanding of what made Dragon Ball Z great that Toei and their team of "professional" writers doesn't.

So at least to me the manga is canon because the Super anime is by far the worst anime I've ever seen. I doubt the manga version will have Zamasu and Black Goku being outsmarted with TEAR GAS.

The Manga ofc :elmo:
The Anime is never the original unless a manga is made of an anime which I've never heard of. Naruto the manga came out first. The animators simply make episodes after the chapters come out. And filler is made so the manga has time to get ahead, which gives them time to animate, and gives fans two things to enjoy at once.

the anime is made first in this one so anime is cannon, however the manga is also cannon when it doesnt contradict...for example when it elabarates why black is in trunkes timeline, and it shows the battle dabura vs trunks....but anime is cannon

and euerka 7 anime is cannon manga is not

In the case of Dragon Ball Super, the Anime is Canon, and the manga is the adaptation. That said, if something is explained in greater detail in the manga than it is in the anime, we can assume that's what happened. But if the Manga contradicts the anime, the Anime is right.

For example, VS Hit, Goku used Kaio Ken SSB in the Anime, and just cheated by having Hit be a wimp in the manga. Canon in Kaio Ken SSB. FTrunks vs Babidi was shown to much greater detail in the manga and it explains that the Kais died there, that's Canon.

In this case both are, if we would've had let's say...... Black being someone else or story being different than the manga that's where the problem and confusions starts. But as longest the material stays the same, with few cuts or added scenes that don't hurt the actual point of the story it's fine.

That's just weird though, so are the anime fillers in Shippuden that expand on the backstories of certain characters or events (for example the recent Kaguya fillers) canon?

Another person falls victim to my signature.

No. This is only the case in DBS, as both of them are partially done by Toriyama. SOME of the shippuden filler can be thought of as canon, but the vast majority not.

Canon: The script Toriyama made

Not completely canon: The adaptation of that script made by Toei (anime) and the adaptation of that script made by Toyotaro (manga)

Lol at you complaining at the anime. It's a lot more complete than the manga, while the manga has its advantages aswell.
Everyone hating on super really have no argument besides the bad animation, which is getting better already.

Manga greater and better than the anime. Period. Better flow of story and more descriptive. Doesn't complicate things.

Why is the manga better? First off the tournament arc had Hit and Goku break the power scaling. If Hit's time skip kept getting better and better how the hell would Champa or Beerus be able to compete with that? Same with Kaioken. It was just the animes way of pleasing the fan base by showing Goku transform. Well probably never see it again. The manga kept the fights simple and within a normal scaling. Making the scene where Champa threatens to destroy hit a lot more believable. (Hit could probably beat Champa in the anime so that scene means little to nothing).

Story wise we also know why certain things are the way they are in the manga. If you had only read/watched one or the other there be many things left unanswered in the anime. While the manga touches on all bases.

Anime always even if manga comes first. Why? Because without the adaptations of anime compared to manga the manga will always look lesser and blander after you see or before you see it.

Everyone hating on super really have no argument besides the bad animation, which is getting better already.

Also the bad writing, poor storyboarding, unfunny childish humor, bad drama, shitty music, huge inconsistencies like bad guys being outsmarted with tear gas or SS2 Trunks surviving attacks from SS Rose, etc

And honestly it's more of an issue with the character designs and drawing style compared to the original anime and the manga rather than just "bad animation". Yes the animation is bad, but that's hardly the worst thing about the production.

I could go on and on and on about why I hate Super but if you have no problem with it good for you, but you can't say the animation is the only flaw it has, Toei ruined the One Piece anime the same way and that has less bad animation.

They both are but i prefer the manga.
The manga seems to give better detail, While also keeping power levels more in line and understandable, While the anime's power levels are all over the damn place.

Also if the anime is indeed more cannon than the manga, Does it also make the ones where beerus dressed up as monaka, Or where SSJ3 Gotenks got negged by base vegeta's clone?. Are these all cannon? Or do these count as filler arcs, Since the manga version seems to of completely skipped over them?.
