Seeing as you believe in God(I assume you're Christian):
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

According to the Bible, the wages of sin is death. Meaning, with one's death, their own individual sin has been atoned.

When Lazarus died, Jesus wept, showing he was a good person, worthy of going to heaven when he died. The fact that death atones for his sin makes this all the more likely. As you should know, Jesus resurrected him. It makes absolutely no sense for Jesus to have resurrected Lazarus if there is an afterlife because he would have surely went to heaven.

Your interpreatiton would have been correct IF there wasn't another story of Lazarus. You know the one about a poor man Lazarus and the rich man? Anyway there it is clearly shown that evil do receive eternal suffering while the good receive eternal bliss.

when you die, it's like you're having a dreamless sleep, but the difference is, you're not going be able to wake from it until you get resurrected.

other people also say that they see god/jesus in their dying moments, but that's hard to believe.

The Bible kind of notions that there isn't an afterlife. At least, not in the context that our consciousness exist after our bodies die and ascends to heaven or descends to hell.

The Bible does believe in a afterlife. But only through the context that Christ Had/Has to fulfill that for humanity.

You took this out of context. If you read starting from chapter one then the context of this book would make sense. This book was making a point that the absurdity of "life" and a "universe" without God. And it breaks down why. This book is perfect for an atheist worldview and to read actually.

Did you bother reading the whole story/context though?

His intrepretion isn't correct, he didn't even bother reading its full context. Nor is yours when you saying this is the same real historic Lazarus, Jesus compare in his Parable (fictional story-telling to make a point)

@Bold: Would you like to share if what you said is true?

Np and what did you mean when you referred to my bold?

I find it very interesting (I was one of the majority too) how the popular belief that hell = eternal suffering. So I wanted to know how it got to that conclusion. Cause after researching Scripture by its orignal word (greek) it has never implied eternal suffering

Indeed such a thing wasn't a part of Judaism however the story of Lazarus that Jesus told depicts the rich man in intense fire after he died. He was in terrible suffering and when he saw Lazarus next to God, he asked that Lazarus puts his finger in water so he could drink atleast a drop of watter. However Lazarus explained that just as how he treated others in his life, he will be treated here and even if he wanted to let him drink he couldn't because between them there is a big tear wich they cannot cross. Then the rich man begged that he atleast warns his relatives not to live like he did so they wouldn't suffer the same fate.

Here its clearly shown that evil doers do receive eternal punishment while good enjoy eternal bliss.

Edit: Also it's not that hell is eternal suffering in a way of physical torture. It's a final complete state of distance from God and His love. Not a giant volcano or a pit.

This video explains best to what I would say in response.

You turn to dust. You probably go back to the place you were before you were born; nowhere.

Tehnically (from a biological point of view) the place you were before you were born are your father's balls.

When i die will there be a hell ?
or a heaven ?
that i do not know though there will be a shell,
there will not be someone known as me,
my existence will be non-existence,
as my body turns in to dust or turn in to the ashes...........

Yeah, no, I've lived in an extremely Christian household all my life and did Bible Studies every week for more than 7 years. I know what I'm talking about.

You can say it's out of context, I disagree.

It doesn't matter how long you have been a christian household. You dont understand being a Christian if you think you can't learn something new from reading the Bible. And it doesn't change the fact that what you remove context from the passage isnt correct.

The very fact that you can't even bring up why your interpretation is right, spells out you dont know what your talking about. Even the title of Ecclesiastes starts off "Everything Is Meaningless !", and begins its "rant".
