I can understand why he would attack Konoha even though the motive wasn't outwardly stated, but I have absolutely no clue as to why he would aid in the massacre of the Uchiha. It couldn't have been to repay Madara for saving him, since we all know that Obito detests Madara, It seems that Uchihas would still be effected by Infinite Tsukiyomi, so why would he aid Itachi in it?

My guess is so he could harvest sharingan, and then there's the fact that Maddy pretty much detested them for turning their backs on him. He had an huge collection of sharingan, so more than likely it was so he could spam Izanagi from all those eyes he collected.

I believe the main reason was to harvest all of the sharigans while also making it easier for Itachi to align with him in regards to the Akatski

Itachi at the age of 7 studied the history of his ancestors. He discovered the Uchiha clan betrayed Madara. Obito at that time, was mirroring Madara. So for Obito to force people to believe he is the real Madara, he had to perform the same things as Madara did, and one of them was holding a grudge against his clan. He to make Itachi believe he is indeed Madara, so he just helped killing the Uchiha clan as fake grudge.

One of the reasons can be made, is obtaining a number of Sharingan which we see in his laboratory.

i think that Madara's hate/detest to the Uchiha's was a known fact to the shinobi's of the leaf after the Uchiha's turned their backs on him.

this also explains why Itachi would ask for Madara's help expecting his agreement (thinking that Obito was Madara at that time), so i believe that Obito was only playing the role of Madara to keep Itachi fooled/blind and not blow his cover or worse try to kill him :yeah:

summery of my point : he was only playing the role of Uchiha Madara that hated the Uchiha's for turning their backs on him to keep his secret identity a secret.
and he had to do so because Itachi discovered his location/existence.

Even if it was to follow Madara's orders it doesn't make sense. Why not wait till after the coup? Both sides Uchiha and Konoha would be weaker. It served a few purposes IMO. One to setup the conditions for Sasuke so that he is completely alone like Naruto. Second eliminate any other potentials from being a nuisance. Third harvest eyes. This is also why I think Obito attacked the Leaf village 17 years ago. He couldn't place the 9 tails into GM anyway so why attack at that time? Reason, it sets the stage for Naruto's loneliness. It was the one detail he didn't mention to Sasuke, though he admits to everything else including the massacre. This is why I believe another puppeteer is at work manipulating events, Madara and Obito included.

Posing as Madara was instrumental in his plan. Its common knowledge that Madara hates the Uchiha. When given the opportunity for revenge on the Uchiha, doing anything but happily accepting would hint at his faking. Even if it was only Itachi he wouldnt give off even a small hint that he was anyone but Madara. Refusing this opportunity would be a huge giveaway especially to someone as intelligent as Itachi.

My guess is to play the role of Madara to the teeth. To live and breath the fallacy that he could actually be Madara. I feel he was enjoying the idea and feeling that came with the power of Madaras being, name, etc. Also...Madara had a grudge against the Uchiha.. .so Obito being Madaras puppet set out to walk the earth on Madaras behalf to the teeth! This is my guess....
