Maybe it's like what Chiharu said. Maybe Tobirama used his infamous S/T techniques and surprised Izuna. By the way Izuna was surprised by that cut, I'm sure he was confident with his Mangekyo and thought he'd be able to read all his movements.

Doubt he didn't know how to use his Mangekyo. This is a life or death battle he should be spamming his jutsu's, I thought atleast we'd see Susano'o or Amaterasu from him. Now we don't know what his abilities are.

I thought you had to have the Mangekyo Sharingan of both yourself and a brother to unlock the EMS and we are clearly shown that Madara has that in this chapter meaning that yes, Izuna must have unlocked his Mangekyo Sharingan

I am not sure about this answer of mine.
But, I think one only needs to possess the Mangekyo Sharingan after which he or she must obtain a sibling's eye to gain access to the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. See the chapter where Itachi and Sasuke fought at the Uchiha hideout.

You misunderstood that part of my post, I was simply saying that Izuna's death was similar to how a fodder character is killed.

It's also similar to how the third was killed.

And btw, just because Itachi said what he said doesn't mean he was intentionally lying, it just might be that he didn't know more then rumors. In fact it's likely that he was unaware of the truth.

1)Izuna had 2 panels and they weren't even close ones.No evidence that he had a particular sharingan in that fight.
2)Never took him for a badass,but,meh,whatever suits you.
3)Laughable.If we are talking pure Uchiha(not Obito with rinnegan and senju DNA) then all of them are inferior to EMS-PS Madara.
4)Because of Tobirama sayin "Hiraishingiri" while striking Izuna??I don't think that he would be shouting random jutsus because he was bored.And since "Hiraishin" means FTG, I believe it's safe to conclude that "Hiraishingiri" is a similar jutsu.
5)If that happens I hope it's only to switch to other kages flashbacks.

I dont think we will see the conclusion. I think it's safe to assume this is how Hashirama died. The only way to kill a god of the Shinobi world is by his own hand....or tree root....whichever gets the job done quicker I guess
