According to both Obito and Madara all that is needed to cast IT is have the chakra of the tailed beast in the Mazo. It doesn't even have to be all the chakra. So...why didn't they just have the Mazo suck out some of the tailed beast chakra from Jin? That would allow them to live, but the Akastsuki would still get what they want.

Perhaps they thought killing some people were ok when they were gonna "save" people in the long run, they didnt have sympathy for their victims basicly so they didnt care.
They were also mercenaries that killed for money.

And also saving them woudnt have given them any better appearance it would only risk the orginsation. soz for missple.s

Now that I think it about some more, Nagato could have revived them. The only reason he died to the Jutsu was due to him having low chakra at the time.
