Well you know, he's the one who sealed half of it in Naruto and half in himself. He was going to either give it to him or use it on himself anyway. 90% of the ordeal makes sense, and it demonstrates other realities in Naruto lore.

When he sealed the kyuubi in naruto, it was too powerful, so he sealed the yin half of his chakra within himself when he performed the reaper death seal. I never expected him to actually be able to use the KCM, but I guess he was alone with half of kurama for 16 years so it would be possible to learn to control it.

I believe the kage from the mist was a perfect jinchuriki with the three tails. but I'm not sure if we are talking about the same person, when I said that I was talking about Minato being alone with 9 tails, but yea I guess the transformation may have been immediate.
