I don't think it's ever said...I doubt anyone is strong enough to do it though. Shikamaru is pretty good, but not nearly good enough to fight a tailed beast.

I believe a tailed beast cannot be held by shadow possession because with their chakra levels they can easily overpower it. Im basing this off the golden brothers ease of breaking shikimaru's shadow possession. That's my opinion...

It's been shown that the Kage Mane no Jutsu can be overpowered with brute strength. This is how Tayuya (for one example) was able to resist it.

No one in the Nara clan can match up to any of the Bijuu. They would not be able to hold it.

That's not true.

Technically anyone could learn it. Only the Nara Clan knows it because it's a Hidden technique. They keep the jutsu a secret so no one else knows how it works.

In theory it's possible for someone other than the Nara Clan to learn it. They just need the proper instructions

I'm assuming it's only as strong as the user because when Shikamaru runs out of chakra his technique gets weaker. Maybe if Shikamaru was a jinchuriki then he could hold them.
