well so far Naruto's has become one of the most powerful shinobi in the manga within 3 years time-span

and by the end of the manga he'll be the strongest shinobi surpassing Hashirama

Naruto is being compared to the sage not in terms of power but in terms of his heart and will. The sage believed peace can be achieved through love which is why he chose the younger son as his successor who shared his beliefs.

Naruto won't surpass the SO6P but he will be right near him in power once the manga ends
