In a number of threads that i have started, i have mentioned that the sharingan was just handed to the uchiha without them having to work for it. This isn't a hate thread for the uchiha because they have some very deep and complex characters no doubt (*cough*itachi). The common defense for this was when sasuke states early in the manga that the sharingan manifests in a few elite members of the Uchiha clan. In the most recent chapter however, it has now been confirmed that
the sharingan (and mangekyou sharingan) are the result of experiencing extreme love or friendship and then losing it. So an uchiha with exceptionally powerful eyes isn't just stronger than other people or more talented etc, it is only because their brain released a special chakra to their optic nerve when they experience this kind of loss
