Actually I think OP is right. A Konoha doujutsu is lost in the field, and a Jounin is aware of location, and they don't send ANBU to retrieve the body. Slippin... that's why you lost your Hokage right there. All Danzo's plan...

As I said, there was a war going on and Konoha's forces were VERY tiny. They couldn't afford a luxury of sending any forces deep into enemy territory just to retrieve a body which was most likely mashed up anyway.
