Well. "I use them to show a pause in my words." is a complete sentence. Thus a single period would show a pause.




It's not that they use "short hand." They couldn't use proper grammar even if they tried. Hell, I doubt most people could use proper grammar in their native languages (in the case of English not being their first language).

I think the guy above meant "pause in my thoughts"- at least that's how I use it. I also use it when I snip someone's quote to show that I am quoting it partially.

Someone told me that using it too much shows too much confusion in the personality though. >.>

I didn't say you. I was simply generalizing. Your English (both grammar and spelling) is already better than most people who speak English as their first/primary language.

lol.. I have been asked to improve my grammer before posting at NB too many times. But, I have found it's easier to find mistakes in other people's posts than one's own as well (seriously). So I don't care much.

Aside from people not knowing how to properly use them? People improperly using them while consecutively spelling words wrong (or using the wrong words altogether) can make for some very difficult reading.

But seriously it really pisses me off sometimes when you want to read something but it's just unreadable. And I mean, my grammar isn't the best since I am german but to be honest, I've seen alot of US citizens with grammar worse than mine.
