in terms of position danzou was above itachi, danzou was an elder, itachi was an anbu.

in the scan above itachi asked if danzou offered a threat but danzou said no, quite clear danzou ain't want none

he agreed based on what he thought was right (which further proved that his wisdom was on par with that of a kage.)

What other option was there ? His father was set on the Coup d'etat, and there were three things Itachi could do.

1) Do what he did, and save the life of his brother

2) Join the clan in the Coup, which would result in Sasuke's death

3) Leave the village and the quelling inside it, which would probably have resulted in his father deciding that Sasuke'd be the next clan leader, probably ending up in Sasuke becoming brainwashed and focused on destroying the Leaf (Ironically, that happened xd Not Itachi's fault though)

hehe and there is also nothing that says that danzo was lying. actually after what tobirama said about the uchiha (not being surprised about their fate) and what itachi chose to do there after being A SPY who was the confermation about the uchiha's plan (itachi knew what was going on just as much as danzo coz he was there). itachi had a CHOICE, to join his clan or stand against them.
