Kirin uses natural lightning, not necessarily pure energy. It doesn't require Sage Mode either, so I don't think it is.

In a way yes, but mostly not. Senjutsu come from mix of nature/spiritual/physical energies, kirin is raw nature energy and exceeds senjutsu in power.

Just like SM kabuto could bend cave to his will. Cave and lightning are nature energy. Its not really senjutsu but its close in mechanics.

All Sasuke did to activate Kirin was heat up the air/clouds with Fire Style: Dragon Flame Jutsu. He missed Itachi on purpose and used it only as a diversionary attack. He eventually formed cumulonimbus clouds (thunder clouds) and then he channelled Raiton Chakra through his hand which caused the lightning to react with it and synchronised with his hand. He directed it down to his desired target AKA Itachi.

Yes but its narutoverse, physics here are based on chakra. Sasuke injected some of his chakra into nature energy and seized control of it. Essentially its a senjutsu.
But since there is far more nature energy then user's chakra its different and more powerful then normal SM

No Sasuke is not a Sage. Kirin is an advance jutsu created by Sasuke from Chidori, the Same way that Fulton Rasenshuriken is derived from Rasengan.
