I think they won't leave until they make a final appearance in the battlefield. Will still got stories to hear about the 4 hokages and maybe a little bit more. I still think orochimaru is up to something, he's never been known to be a TEAM PLAYER and has never been trust worthy. At this point i wouldn't be surprise if more well known characters die, and i still can't take a guess either because neji's death really caught me by surprise, i still don't believe it.

Btw, i think kishi brought back the hokages to fill in some loop holes in the story, to add more background information on the shinobi world. If the Juubi is on a rampage, i believe the only one who could stop it is the first hokage so that would be a good reason for kishi to bring him and the others back.

No its gonna be more dramatic this way .. Didnt u notice ? Whenever something good happens in this manga it is followed by greater evil forces... So i think Madara/Obito are kicking the alliance asses right now .. And later the hokages will be an unexpected ace card that will balance the power betwwen them !

I know, it's the same motif all the way form the start of the series till now. But Kishimoto overhypes the hopeless plans and efforts and that is getting too repetitive.
