So if my rep bar is bigger than someone elses, what does it mean?

Yah, I only have 2.5 now which is almost a 1:1 ratio. Mostly because I stopped making threads. But I still get thanks from the thread in my sig.

Same here, I too am not creating threads [the good one's like in the past]. Also Nice thread you got there :p I had to relay on my memory and google

There are so many holes in it that it defeats the purpose. If I wanted to 'legally' gain rep:

- Just post local News stories

- Make a bunch of crappy avatars and post them in the design hall and I guarantee I would STILL get rep (this is just an example, most of the avatars in that section are awesome)

- Take random memes from the internet and start making threads out of them

- Make threads dissing Sakura or other hated characters (though this one isn't legal if done in an obvious character bashing manner)

- Make threads stating how awesome the mods are

- Make threads stating my problems with the mods

- Make a long rant thread about the current state of NB

- Equip a hilarious avatar and sig

- Equip a very sexual avatar and sig

- If you're intelligent and have lots of time then you can make decent theory threads (with the only intent being to garner rep)

That's just the tip of the iceberg. It's abused on so many levels that it's meaningless, let's not be naive. Seriously, I kept editing my post because a new idea popped in my head like every 30 secs. I have to stop somewhere.

It's just for show. Don't expect other members to pay attention though since most people don't care.

Legit Rep gain? A lot of your suggestion may end up users getting infracted and banned and along with rep reduction.

Reputation points lost their value mostly because of rep whores. People would join and already want a full bar as if it was manna/stamina points in the games and they won't be able to proceed unless they get it full. They started to rep stupidest and most meaningless threads and posts just in order to get it back and thus they ruined it for everyone.

Same for the post count. Many of the members with highest post counts have posts of little value. Just a waste of server space.

Rep is meaningless.

Take it away and see who complains.

Reputation could be define as your meaning of what it is which is anything such as trolling and logical or good post. I define it as a reward for my self entertainment, good response or reply from post, or different Artistic things here on Narutobase. That is what my Rep points are going to. I receive Rep from here and there, but mostly from what was stated above.

Those aren't suggestions though, they have been practiced. I'm just providing some enlightment to the OP or anyone else that judges the legitimacy of a member based on their rep. Mine was just a little more elaborate than others here.

Yeah I figured if it was discovered there would be consequences.

It's fun to give it in such cases and to receive it too. That's why it's still here. I still miss the gifts we could give each other. Unfortunately no plug-in works well enough to add it back.

But I don't pay attention to it when it comes to reading a post by a member.

You used the word "legit", and that gave a false impression so I clarified the situation. Just because many escaped notice of mods doesn't mean that all would and those who get caught are dealt with.

@Bold Which I believe led to being more creative, all in attempt to power up their rep bar.

Well there's only a handful of FGers, many of the other members get their high post count from RP. At least, that's what I have seen RPers say. "Your post count can increase fast when RPing."

EDIT- Just to elaborate a little more, I've been in two RP villages. I know about the taverns and such, a lot of spam goes on in there. Then there's the RP as a whole, which includes Konoha Town, this place is the METROPOLITAN of spam. It also consist of creating an imaginary character and having them talk to another, which is essentially what the Ninja World is. I don't know who judges the value of these posts, but the RP seems to be important for a lot of people. Obviously as adults, if we were to debate what is more valuable; creating imaginary characters and having them fight each other (sometimes bickering and complaining whenever rules are added, stuff taken away, changes suggested etc.), or participating in very simple games with friends (which has its own share of complaining as well), the premise itself would make the argument redundant and outright silly. Not to mention, it would be one big battle of hypocrisy. However, I think that many of the members with high post counts are from the RP world. The others are of course from FG, but there's only like 15 of them (compared to the massive world that is RP), and probably like 3-5 dedicated ones (some of them are even RPers).

This pretty much covers it. I just wish that people would understand that reputation doesn't mean anything in a forum. A member should be judged by the quality of their posts/threads, not by how much reputation they earned.

I understand what you mean Nameless, I've seen that around here as well. That's pretty much what some people do to gain reputation in general.

It means that you're better as a person than the one with less rep.

My bad, a blunder on my part. :O

Indeed, it happens pretty often, though there are a lot of sections that I either don't visit anymore, or visit rarely. But I have noticed it in the past and still do, just not as much as since I'm not very active in particular sections.

I never really liked the gift-thing for some reason. I do not know why. xD

About the Reputation, somewhat, but I tend to look at everything out of curiosity. Join Date, Gender, Posts, Reputation, Awards, etc. It means nothing, but.... I guess, me either. If it looks good or legit, I give some out. I just do not give to everyone I think has a good post. Only time I give some out is when a member has few Reputation such as 5 bars or less and a good post included. It is only once and a while I see those post and give some here and there.... I do not know... You have to earn yours is how I see it.

The gifts were awesome. I miss those too.

Does it mean I am going to get more attention no matter how bs my Naruto threads are?

Oh yeah, I forgot to answer this. lol a big fat no, it would just lead to reduction of your rep bar. The members here do have brains lol

If applied correctly it shows how much appreciation people have for your posts/threads/art/GFX etc.
if applied correctly

It's individuality rather than the rep bar that gets you attention I believe

It means you're my b1tch. Go and clean my room for me until you're on par with my rep u_u

In all seriousness, I don't look at people's rep when viewing their threads or posts. It's the content of their posts that matter. Rep is just a nice extra feat

I guess to finalize it, rep is a double standard.

If you have a lot, and post a shitty thread, i'm not surprised at your lack of quality regardless of your high rep.

Alternatively, if you have barely any rep, and you post a really good thread, i'm actually impressed based on the lack of rep (and usually post count and length of membership) in regards to the quality of the post.
