The phrase "There's a thin line between love and hate" definitely has it's merits. The hate you had for her was such a strong emotion that your subconscious began interpreting it in another way after awhile. Instead if hate, you're now beginning to like her. It isn't unheard of.

OT: You should probably tell her how you feel, it doesn't matter if you don't have the same friends. It's hard to find a girl with mutual friends, as far as I know. To me it isn't a big deal, so go for it.
