In the last few pages of the latest chapter we see a defeated Madara laying o the ground and Tobirama was looking to finish him off. Hashirama tries to get Madara and the Uchiha to join forces with him and the Senju but Madara says the only way he would do that is if Hashirama was to kill Tobirama or kill himself. Considering that Hashirama is the leader of the Senju he bared the burden of the Uchia's hatred on his own shoulders and instead of killing Tobirama he decided to kill himself in order to stop the war between the Senju and Uchiha and allow them to join forces.

Naruto and Sasuke are like mirror images of Hashirama and Madara, so I can also see Naruto sacrifing his own life in order free Sasuke from his hatred of the Ninja World as well.

Seen a few people getting carried away and forgetting all the stuff Hashi hasn't accomplished yet in the flashback (marriage, starting the village, his conflict with the creation of edo tensei, etc. etc.)

You obviously don't read the manga because if you did you would know that even after the Hidden Leaf Village if created Hashirama and Madara will eventually fight again because Madara wants to control the Hidden Leaf Village himself and after Hashirama finally realizes that Madara's hatred will continue on, maybe he actually decides to kill himself in an attempt to free the Madara and the Uchiha clan of their curse.
