Naruto was right to go after Sasuke. His TnJ was basically Ninshuu and he already saw Sasuke's true self so he knew he could bring him back from the darkness. He lived long enough to see himself become the hero

Let's also not forget him going 4 tails all because of a little trash talk.

Naruto inherited Kushina's short temper, as a jinchuuriki with no control over Kurama he's extremely sensitive to emotion (like Gaara has proven). Combined with being Ashura's transmigrant and his descendant (strong body = high testosterone) Naruto is an extremely stubborn person prone to rejection.
