Though the end credits imply he cares about them....or likes them. Does this prove Goku does care or doesn't? Or does he just not give a crap about Goten and Gohan was the favorite?

Family logic doesn't apply to goku. He's far too innocent to think beyond basic love, food and of course training. He spent time with his family but was happy to leave earliest opportunity to train. Chi chi found herself at peace with his absence and the two seem less stressed.

His love for his family is undeniable. He is a great dad. Goten and Gohan are both very fond of him.

He loves his family, but Saiyans are naturally not family oriented, they'd rather fight. Goku would rather train than spend time with his family. Don't forget Saiyans are a race of aliens who want nothing but to fight in their lifetime.

he explained this after the cell fight...he died..and asked not to wished back because he has a huge target on his back and as long as he lives he will have people from all over the universe coming to destroy earth (including his family). he was granted his life back in order to fight majin buu to the best of his abilities, after that he was pretty much given immortality by the elder kia (not really but he died again they would put him back on earth to protect it) goku understands that he is much more important to humanity as a whole more than his importance to his family. All in all the safest his family and earth can be is when hes not present.

goku is a saiyan rasied as a human...compared to what vegeta has done has a father is two completely different situations.
