So, did Envy consider Edward something of a friend, in the end?

I was just watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and found it interesting that, upon killing himself Envy says some spiteful words, as expected, but internally wishes Edward farewell. Considering the kind of OOC occurrence of the scene, do you think Envy admitted that he viewed Edward as a friend, or what?

That was my take on the scene. Although not just Ed, but also humanity in a whole. I believe Envy was more or less acknowledging Ed for showing him that humanity is something that envy.. well envied.
