So Chidori and Raikiri were the same thing

I really didn't know that, this was surprising to me.

I'm expecting lots of 'we know this' and 'no hur dur', but I'm sure there are others who are surprised as me. I say this because usually people refer to Kakashi's move as 'Raikiri' specifically, and Sasuke's as 'Chidori'. And I remember about a month or 2 ago seeing a thread that was asking 'What's the difference between Chidori and Raikiri?' and somebody had answered 'Raikiri is more dense, so it does more damage'.

So yea, just putting it out there...

I'm half half at this point. If there's no difference then I don't see why one is labeled an S-Rank technique and one is A-Rank. There are also panels like this:

That may imply them being 2 different things.

Although one simply having more condensed chakra than the other seems a bit underwhelming too.

No the difference between the 2 is that chidori requires both amount of chakra and focus, while lighting blade requires excellent chakra controll and its much more powerfull

sasuke chidori could be stronger just because he has learned to transfer it to his sword

Not really... you're comparing a completely different move from what I was mentioning. You're talking about lightning BLADE, which is the morphing of Chidori/Raikiri into the shape of a blade/sword. And I would assume they're the same power, it just depends on how much chakra you put into either one.

And guys, if you're going to try and argue that one is stronger than the other when it as clear as day states they're the same thing right in your face, please do so, but at least give me some reasoning to work with.

Raikiri is more concentrated so the impact is stronger.

He would win in a clash with the sword as for chidori vs lightning blade idk because i think kakashi clashed with naruto and lost and sasuke always clash with naruto and it's a tie so chidori is stronger to me

Well after seeing that, there's one thing that for sure now- They planned too far ahead and forgot about what they said in the past.

I guess it's all just a contradiction now, so...

In the end there's not really much of a difference between them anyways. The extra bit of piercing power, if it exists, rarely changes anything. It's debatable if it'll even make a difference in cases like Sasuke vs. A, where Sasuke did pierce the shroud but by a low margin.

i think raikiri is just an improved version of chidori

like for example you have rasengan and oodaama rasengan (both are still rasengan, but one is better)

They're the same in a sense that they're both lightning based techniques that are used to cut things, but Raikiri is an improved version of Chidori, since Kakashi was using Chidori in 'Kakashi Gaiden', but after he improved it, he called it Raikiri.

Anyway, when Deidara fought Sasuke, he thought that his technique is Raikiri, because he saw Kakashi use it before and they basically look the same, but Sasuke told him that it's called Chidori.

When Kakashi clashed with Naruto it was Kakashi's Rasengan vs Naruto's Wind Style:Rasengan.
