Sorry for late response.
I know they are one of the "Big 3" Summons. I understand that they have a place called Ryuchi Cave that is similar to Mount Myaboku, where the White Snake Sage resides. Ummm people who use Snakes in the manga are Orochimaru, Kabuto, And Sasuke. Snake's sizes can range from all sizes, 1 foot to 100m (manda). They share similar properties to snakes irl with their heat sensing (I believe). There are also a lot of jutsus revolved around snakes such as the ones that orochimaru uses to heal himself and things.

They are a great ally due to their size. It won't be easy to kill one of the larger summons such as Manda due to his size and the resistance that comes hand-in-hand with the summon. They can do a lot of basic combat functions such as slamming with their body, biting, or Restricting the opponent. Smaller summons can be utilized in numbers to distract the opponent with the larger number of snakes to have to worry about. I will probably use them for purposes such as combatting an enemies summon or helping me out in tougher situations like a jutsu they will have to tank for me.

=___= Well in my opinion I think large summons such as them are good fir distracting your enemy too, or using for intimidation while preparing other sneak attacks.
What about the smaller snakes? Im pretty sure they can be useful too. Especially if you made customs.

But they can also be a lot harder for an enemy to detect and can be used for more stealthy purposes and sneak attacks to help gain an advantage on an enemy instead of just having Manda bust shit down. Plus with smaller snakes I can play with them and wear them as a substitute for my chain :3

Hand Seals: Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey, Ram, Palm On Ground
Description:To summon the creature the ninja will wipe blood on the hand, perform the necessary handseals and then touch their hand to the ground or another object. Though it appears that as long as significant pressure is placed against the blood in some form, the summon will be complete. There can be variations to the summoning steps, some ninja like Temari will wipe blood on her fan, then by swinging the fan the animal is summoned. Other ninja like Orochimaru wipe the blood across a snake tattoo on their arm first, then touch the ground.
Wipe the blood across your palm, make the handseals and then place your hand upon the scroll, channeling chakra to summon a snake to the training grounds.

I would just make this snake my slave for methods of transportation. Also they would be pretty nice ot block incoming techniques if you are out of options. And then obviously, offensively there are a lot of things this giant snake could help with like combos and eating people.
