Hate that I'm just now realizing this, but remember when we saw Smokers last battle? His Jitte got broke by Vergo, so he doesn't have it anymore.
What this possibly means:
A new weapon. Possibly a stronger jitte, or a new broadsword type weapon picked out by Tashigi.
New hand based attacks.
New offensive abilities that don't rely on weapons.
Improved haki.
From this point on, Smokers attacks will now move up a level. Also a potential development of seastone resistant if he decides to utilize it in a new way... it's already impressive that a Devil Fruit user like him is capable of casually walking around with a piece of seastone constantly on his back. I think this is a good thing, because while the seastone Jitte was very advantageous in battle for him, he relied on the jitte a lot and that dulled his focus on more smoke based attacks (and I say this not to discredit what smoke abilities he already has, just that they could be better).
As for a absolute prediction I believe Smoker will strengthen his Haki to it's highest ability and conquer the use of Full Haki, just like Vergo.
Tl:dr- Smoker had a wake up call last arc and came to understand he needed to be stronger if he wants to survive in the New World and really pursue Luffy. He got beat up by everybody and seeing Vergo full haki almost gave him a heart attack. So that's why I'm predicting now instead of relying on the Seastone Jitte he's going to start honing his haki and smoke abilities to the full potential.
Not to mention it would be sort of poetic. A smoke and iron man mixed in one. And he's the first logia in the manga to demonstrate armament Haki. It's only fitting he develops full haki.

I say this because Smoker is basically the Marine Man of the manga, everything he does is for the better of the Marines... he lives for the Marines. He's all about the rules and wants to enforce the laws with an iron fist (and I mean that strength wise not like a dictator). We could see how irritated he was getting with Vergo when he simply wasn't strong enough to beat him, and how frustrated he became with him underestimating the marines. He can't have that happening in the future with his rank.
Furthermore Smoker is just like Luffy. He wants to protect his subordinates, just as Luffy wants to protect his Nakama and knows he has to get stronger to be able to conquer the future beasts he'll encounter in the New World. It had to hurt him to see his his men faling before him and him being unable to do anything about it.
Then lastly the manga doesn't do as great a job of showing it as the manga does but look at his face when Vergo goes full haki and then understand how humiliated he's been.

He's staring at Vergo as if thinking 'so this is what I was fighting and the full extent of my abilities. I have to get stronger'.
-Lost to a pirate once
-Became indebted to a pirate
-Technically lost to another pirate
-Had his crew get slaughtered then beat up by another pirate.
Smoker won't have that happening in the future and since he knows Luffy is roughly on par with those peoples levels, he has to get stronger. Vergo was his main opponent of that arch and seeing how beat up he was I am predicting he will achieve full haki.
