he didnt need it against tobi re-read the fight
we also should at least wait to find out more about minato and sage mode its quite possible its not as lengthy as narutos so relying on it all the time may not suit each situation or maybe kishi just wanted to give naruto the spotlight when they fought juubito. just because all the info isnt presented straight away doesnt make it an asspull

Minato was using kcm and maybe he couldn't merge sage and kyuubi chakra. besides he was using Naruto's sage chakra.

He could have gone SM at Naruto's birth (as a precaution) to sense dangers incomming for example.
Standing still long enough would have been hard after Obito attacked baby Naruto but vs Juubito,
there was time to stand still I believe.
There might be some other limitations or reasons that we dont know of which could explain why he didnt use it before on screen. If there arent any, than it seems to be a kind of a big plot hole no jutsu and inconsistent with the story.
We dont know if he entered the mode in moments. Maybe he was standing still and collecting SM chakra for while. That still doesnt explain it though, since he had time to stand still in other battles.

yes but naruto had alot kage bunshin at that frog place and jiraya had ma and pa to gather narutal energy for him what did minato have nothing which means he didn't master it!

It was never stated that one has to be specifically meditating to gather nature chakra. Evidence of this is when Naruto attempted it while running. He failed obviously, and Pa Toad then clarified it has to be done while staying still. However, I suppose I can agree with the claim that there were instances before where Minato could've used it, and I've said from the beginning that it's inconsistent for Minato to have a perfect SM when it was stated before (or at least implied heavily) that Naruto's SM were superior to Minato's and Jiraya's.

He created the Rasengan after seeing a tailed beast bomb once.
Having Jiraiya as his teacher and having a contract with the toads means he probably had Sage Mode explained to him, but never really got the chance to fully realize his potential with it. With all this dumbfounded standing around in shock, he probably began to feel the natural energy around him, and it clicked.
Naruto completed his Rasenshuriken mid-battle (but perfected it later) so why couldn't the man who created Rasengan figure out Sage Mode?
