He did not use sm before because his bm chakra was attached to sa for their safety had he used sm he would have to undo bm and that would make his chakra attached to everyone the field get disappear.
And his sm is weaker than naruto as he never got the chance to hone his abilities because of his death.

I don't mean to have a go but seriously, Minato was NOT talking about himself using Sage Mode he was comparing the power of the Juubi inside Madara to when it was in Obito. Only he was calling it the "Hermits Power" Hermit meaning Sage yes but in this case, he was referring to The Sage of Six Paths being as the Hermit of Six Paths was the original Jinchuuriki to the Juubi and so Minato, like many others, are associating the power of the Juubi as the same thing as the power of the Sage, when they are two completely different things (Much like Naruto and Kurama, as it is usually Kurama's power that Naruto uses.).

So the power Minato could feel was coming from Madara exhibiting the traits of the Sage of 6 Paths, which is basically the same thing Obito did.

1.You need time to enter SM?
2.Why Minato never used it while fighting the Kyuubi?

Minato did have enough chakra when he was alive. First, it was strongly implied Minato could use SM when Naruto fought Pain. Secondly, what Mattek said. Third, it was never said Minato didn't have high chakra reserves anywhere. I still wonder where people get the idea Minato had no stamina.

And obviously, if his chakra was low when he was alive, how would he have learned to draw on natural chakra? The toads never would've taught it to him if he didn't have a large chakra pool in the first place.

Minato has been one of my favorites even as he's been bashed relentlessly but this chapter makes me question the logic behind his character altogether.

I really don't see why Minato needs SM. He has enough speed, strength won't help him much. He never lacked chakra from what we've seen. The only reason why he used it it so it would affect Madara.

Didnt lord fukasaku(the small old frog) say naruto surpassed the previous ones(=jiraya and minato) for me it was also clear he had sm. Only thing i think is stupid is the fact that its a perfect sm(=better then jirayas sm..) other then that im fine with it as i does kinda make sense

Him attaching his chakra to the SA for their safety was after the combined attack of Naruto and Minato vs Obito, not before. Check chapter 643.

Yep ! it's not the same as naruto's or jiraiya's versions of sage mode but a weaker version of the sage mode that only gives ability to use sage chakra ( he said senjutsu not sage mode there ) besides jiraiya had lot of faith in minato maybe he wanted minato to master sage mode but he didn't master it before his death .

Maybe because in none of those previous situations did he have time to gather natural energy? The stare battle with BZ Obito instead gave him plenty of time to do it.
