Background:
Jiraya started out as a ninja on a team consisting of him, Tsunade, and Orochimaru, Hiruzen being the team leader. After some amount of time though, he left to go explore the world and at one point discovered Mount Myōboku, home of the toads. There, the Great Toad made a prophecy stating that Jiraya would be the master of a person who would either save or destroy the world. During this time at Mount Myōboku, Jiraya also trained in Senjutsu (also known as sage mode). During the Second Shinobi War, Jiraya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade teamed up and fought Hanzo the Salamander. After the fight was over, Hanzo was so impressed the team could fight him and survive that he gave them the title "Legendary Three Ninja" (伝説の三忍, Densetsu no Sannin), we refer to this as "The Legendary Sannin". Shortly after the battle ended, Jiraya and his teammates ran into three young orphans who are known as Konan, Yahiko, and Nagato. Orochimaru suggested he kill the three children to save them from the cruelty of the world, although Jiraya intervened and decided to look after them and teach them ninjutsu so they could defend themselves. Within a small amount of time, the four of them became close with one another. So close that Jiraya even wrote a book about Nagato. Although the time came when Jiraya had to leave and went back to the Hidden Leaf. There, Jiraya became a Jonin and was able to teach three children, one of them being Minato Namikaze. Jiraya was interested with Minato and took him on as his apprentice, teaching him techniques such as summoning. Much later when Minato became the fourth hokage, Minato and Kushina were pregnant. Since Minato felt the book Jiraya wrote about Nagato reflected his personality so much, he decided to name his child the name of the protagonist in the book, Naruto. Therefore, Jiraya became the godfather of Naruto. After a few years, Orochimaru betrayed the Leaf and Jiraya attempted to pursue Orochimaru and bring him back to Konoha. After Jiraya realized he couldn't bring Orochimaru back, he decided to leave the village in order to follow Orochimaru and gain information about the Akatsuki. Jiraya felt that tracking Orochimaru was more important than becoming the next Hokage.

Jiraya was very skilled in Ninjutsu and was able to use it strategically and thoughtfully in every situation, not wasting a second of his time.
Jiraya had a wide variety of jutsu making him more prepared for any situation handed at him, he can block powerful techniques with ease and could deal multiple offensive attacks that can quickly give him an advantage in nearly any given situation. For example, Jiraya could use
Jiraya wasn't only a fighter. He can also do reconnaissance and espionage. For example, he was able to completely infiltrate the Hidden Rain village without being spotted or recognized as an outsider. Also, Jiraya had a bit of barrier knowledge. He is able to use jutsu such as
A small side note I felt I should point out, Jiraya was also very capable of learning high ranked jutsu like Rasengan, proving he has a great sense of learning and good chakra control along with high ninjutsu potential.
Although it seems like a bit of an overkill, I'll also be adding Jirayas Fūinjutsu capabilities into this section as well.
Jiraya also had an extensive knowledge on sealing and used sealing techniques multiple times throughout the series. For example, when Naruto first showed Jiraya the seal on his stomach, he was easily able to realize what kind of seal it was and how it works. Jiraya also has a certain seal that's quite interesting. Although it's not Jirayas main form of attack, he is quite skilled in Taijutsu. He has shown the extent of his taijutsu on more than one occasion. For example, his brute kick alone was able to stop one of Pains dogs to stop multiplying when cut. Another example is when he had sage mode enhance his prowess, he was able to kick the human path of pain and it was enough to kill him plus send him back many meters.
Jirayas speed is also formidable while in enhanced mode or in sage mode. Jiraya had enough speed to drop his shoe off a building, jump off the building and kick someone before his shoe would fall and hit the floor.

Since Jiraya had an affinity of those that matched the toads at Mount Myōboku, he had the ability to learn sage mode. This allowed Jiraya to add more strength and chakra to his already strong structure and large chakra reserves.
Since Jiraya didn't perfect sage mode, he needed to call Ma and Pa to fuse with his body in order to help stabilize the nature chakra and not turn into a frog. This may seem like a setback, but it was actually an advantage. For example, since Ma and Pa are outside intelligent life forms, that prevents Jiraya from staying under a genjutsu, and since Jiraya is only average at genjutsu, only being able to realize and counter genjutsu. Although it seems like Jiraya was just another pervert looking for new women, he was actually a very intelligent shinobi and is reliable in the fact that the minute he learns something, he tells his teammates instead of keeping it to himself, a key necessity to an intelligent man. He has a large amount of knowledge in various subjects, such as being able to realize and undo a sealing technique, or understanding how things work (like how he realized that all pains share the same vision). Itachi even noted that Naruto grew quite a bit in the three years Jiraya taught him, implying that Jiraya was a good teacher. Jiraya taught many powerful shinobi such as Minato, Naruto, and Nagato throughout his life to the point where he could be considered a very intelligent man who understands how the human mind functions.
Chakra
Jiraya was shown to have very large chakra reserves and had the ability to fight until his very last breath, showing a lot of physical resistance and determination to continue. For example, Jiraya was able to train with Naruto for hours and hours without collapsing from exhaustion or giving up mid way. An example of just how much chakra Jiraya has is when he creates a giant swamp (link in ninjutsu section), the size of the swamp he made was massive, and it's shown that the size of a swamp depends on how skilled the ninja is and how much chakra they put into it. Since Jiraya didn't want to completely tire himself out, he didn't put all his chakra into making the swamp. Regardless of that, the swamp is still a very large size indicating he has large chakra reserves.
Jiraya also had great chakra control. He was able to manipulate his chakra in such ways that he could master difficult jutsus like Rasengan that actually morphs pure chakra into a solid object. Also other things that prove his chakra control is the fact that he could work with seals and traps without showing signs of struggle or frustration.
