I am not talking about current SM Naruto. I am talking about SM Naruto who battled Pain, Kurama, 3rd Raikage, etc.
Now, many people think that since Naruto is a "perfect sage" and Jiraiya is "imperfect" that automatically means he is the superior fighter. Now this is obviously not true, since Jiraiya's only imperfections are the fact that he retains some froglike characteristics while in SM. Though Jiraiya's method of using sage mode is different, it is by no means inferior. Jiraiya's arsenal is much more diverse and gives him the win. I will try to address in this thread how SM Jiraiya defeats SM Naruto.
Intelligence: Jiraiya is obviously the more intelligent shinobi and has had decades more experience than Naruto. He has been training Naruto since Part I and knows literally his entire arsenal. Naruto obviously is not a genius, and is prone to forget intel or make unwise decisions during battle:
Keeping distance: Jiraiya does not make risks and will test out Naruto is mid-range before he would decide to enter close combat with him. Naruto's speed during the Pain arc is not any faster (or if it is, not significantly faster) so if Naruto attempts to blitz or enter combat, Jiraiya can just run away or unleash an attack that would force Naruto to stop and take defense. An attack that would be good for this would be
Shadow Clones: Jiraiya deals with shadow clones relatively easily. He has the perfect counter to them:
Shadow clones are extinguished the instant they draw blood, so a simple hair technique like this would cut through swaths or hordes of Naruto's clones. Jiraiya stated it is his quickest attack with the widest range
Rasenshurikens: Since Jiraiya is more than capable of keeping his distance from Naruto, Naruto cannot engage in close combat so his only long-distance attack is the Rasenshuriken. To protect himself from Rasenshuriken, Jiraiya can:
Finishing Naruto: There are so many techniques Jiraiya can use to put down Naruto, I will not have time to name them all, some of them being Goemon, Toad Mouth Bind, Oil + Fire combo with Bunta, Ultra Big-ball rasengan,
If you still have any questions regarding this matchup please feel free to post any of your thoughts.

Another advantage that Jiraiya has over Naruto is that the toads of Mount Myoboku will remain loyal to him in this battle. The toads are far more famililar with Jiraiya than with Naruto and respect him more, and Gamabunta has already disobeyed Naruto twice simply because he did not want to help out. If Naruto summons any toads they will not stay loyal to him - they will all fight on Jiraiya's side.Keeping distance: Jiraiya does not make risks and will test out Naruto is mid-range before he would decide to enter close combat with him. , so Naruto's sensing won't help him avoid all those needles if the range is so wide. There is the argument that with Naruto's SM durability he could tank the needles (and that they would bounce off him or break like when he palmed Pain's chakra rod.) While this argument may be plausible, there's no argument that his clones would be able to tank it since they haven't displayed any durability feats.Rasenshurikens: Since Jiraiya is more than capable of keeping his distance from Naruto, Naruto cannot engage in close combat so his only long-distance attack is the Rasenshuriken. To protect himself from Rasenshuriken, Jiraiya can:
- Use Kebari Senbon to extinguish the shadow clones which are necessary to form Rasenshuriken, so Naruto doesn't get the chance to prep a FRS in the first place
- Use any of his katons to disrupt the process of forming a FRS, or let the fire element overpower the wind element
- Dodge it by standing atop a boss toad and making it leap into the air to avoid the rasenshuriken
