Well I think Kishi kinda chose 6 paths because in the naruto world right now, there are 6 people in total who together, they can basically make the sage of the six paths, or something like that

Well there isnt really a manga chapter that completly states this, i think it might happen. Mabye theyll tell everyone in the future

nagato isn't one path
he's actually the third person the become a sage of six paths
first one is the legendary ninja
second one is madara
third one is nagato
