NO itachi is too smart to end naruto series quickly and kishi want to make sure that there would always be a tremendously powerful character(solo king / Itachi) other than the main protagonists(sasuke and naruto) of the series that would make the series interesting.

Come on guys why you guys just bash him, while it was konoha higher ups that ordered massacre and konaha was ready to go against uchiha clan as stated by Danzo so Itachi only sorted to more peaceful method. why nobody points out the inefficiency of so called saint (hiruzen) and stupid danzo who call himself selfless at the end only cares about his life more important. In other words Itachi has done Hiruzen's and konoha council's dirty work and has to soil his hands while hiruzen remained a saint in the eyes of konoha and Itachi became a vigilante. If the village ever come to know the truth behind the massacre they would only be ashamed of their own governament and how much corrupt were their higher ups and itachi will only be revered as a great shinobi and for the account even hashirama has concluded that he would kill his friend and his own family if they ever harm the village to madara at final valley. while hashirama concluded that with words, itachi did it. The very reason why even hashirama beholds itachi as a greater shinobi not in terms of power but interms of self sacrifice. Oh please mate for once this kind of situation is only possible in fanfics come on man they are ninjas not ordinary humans on the contrary itachi doesn't want innocent people die in a cross fire as the Uchiha clan decided even to kill children and other civilians to ensure their victory of clasping konoha under their control. he only wanted to resort to less violent method that results in less blood shed top of that he wanted to protect the pride of his clan and make himself look like a bad guy and Uchihas are still proud clan of konoha. top of everything it will lead to civil war where there is chance of other nations attacking leaf and trust me man if that ever occurs leaf will fall eventually as u know Hidden cloud, hidden sand, hidden earth villages are not in good terms with leaf and were always waiting for an oppurtunity to attack. Trust me pal please correct if my above reason was false about the civil war so the only the best option is Itachi's action and Hiruzen knows and ordered the massacre as he confirmed to sasuke as an edo when the past kages were resurrected. Even kishimoto explained itachi's actions as justified it as tobi to sasuke to clarify that to the viewers. Last thing Itachi may not be a solo king but he was a great shinobi. The reason why The makers are making Legend of Itachi is to explain his actions in detail and why itachi has to resort to that option. Waiting for today's episode.

Personally i was disappointed how sasuke was unable to use Itachi's eyes to its full potential and why the heck he didn't get Itachi's spiritual weapons and tsukuyomi (as sasuke's genjustsu is sharingan genjutsu amped by MS nothing else) as they are made / born from his eyes. i wish they explain about itachi's spiritual weapons in upcoming legend of Itachi episodes, why they are unique to him but not sasuke who has his eyes.

Kishi probably didn't want Sasuke to replicate Itachi's moveset. I am happy about that.
