The main similarities between those two is honestly giving Naruto (BM) and Sasuke (EMS) powers and factoring as one of the prominent people in their lives. Other than that, I remember that stemmed off as comparison of their actions. But I have no idea why it's being discussed the most.

Because they really do parallel in everything. What Minato is to Naruto, Itachi is to Sasuke. Just like what Oro is to Sasuke, Jiraiya is to Naruto. People feel the need to compare them.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen much Minato vs Itachi threads lately. I think what really makes Itachi and Minato similar is their backstories. Both of them had to **** up Naruto and Sasuke's lives for the greater good. Which in turn made them stronger.
