Food for thought for everyone including for people who believe social networking provides them the absolute truth without personal agenda and scores to settle:

A Sikh man from Canada was at the centre of a social media storm after a photo of him was digitally altered to portray him as one of the suicide bombers involved in the Paris attacks.

The image of Veerender Jubbal, which was changed to show him holding a Quran and what appeared to be a suicide vest, spread so quickly in the wake of Friday’s carnage that it was published on the front page of one of Spain’s largest newspapers and used by two Italian newspapers. An Italian TV channel with nearly 2 million Twitter followers also posted the image......

The image, which began to circulate on Saturday afternoon, was even shared on the Telegram messenger app by Khilafah News, a pro-Islamic State group. Several posts on social media described Jubbal as a “Sikh convert to Islam”.

However, some users on social media did a little digging around and found that the digitally altered image was based on a bathroom selfie of Jubbal from August, wearing a turban and holding an iPad in his hands.

Although it isn’t clear who edited Jubbal’s image, reports have suggested that it was his vehement criticism of the Gamergate movement that made him the target for this particular smear campaign.

Gamers are absolute garbage like I have been saying for a full year. People will not stop harassing, and bothering me. I am cute as gosh.
— Veerender Jubbal (@Veeren_Jubbal) November 14, 2015

Gamergate is an online movement that centers around sexism and misogyny in video game culture. It started in August 2014 when a former boyfriend of game developer Zoe Quinn wrote a 9,000-word blog post accusing her of entering into relationships with video game journalists for positive coverage of her text-based game, Depression Quest. Quinn was the victim of death threats and cyber-bullying when she was trying to publish the game and eventually had to leave her house, fearing for her life.

Jubbal took to Twitter on Saturday to clear things up with this post: “People are editing, and photoshopping my selfies as if I am one of the people causing the issues/problems in Paris.”

He pointed out the altered image had spread to the point where others had to tweet that it was photoshopped. Jubbal also tweeted that a cousin had called him from India after seeing the image

You can all check the last retweets. Let us start with basics. Never been to Paris. Am a Sikh dude with a turban. Lives in Canada.
— Veerender Jubbal (@Veeren_Jubbal) November 14, 2015

This whole thing puts me in a bad position in the sense, where I could be harmed and/or hurt due to this. This is libel from news, and TV.
— Veerender Jubbal (@Veeren_Jubbal) November 15, 2015

Jubbal offered to speak to journalists to clear his name as scores of people from around the world tweeted supporting him.

But through it all, Jubbal kept his cool, saying that he was still valuable, rad and “cute as gosh”.

The internet is a great place to show how idiotic people can be.

And of course, the people who edited the images were the type of people who care for things like gamer gate...

I gotta give them credit for editing the facial expression though, lmao.

GamerGate is a separate issue that I think would be a great topic to discuss (tomorrow, please!), it seems a lot of people aren't properly informed on the issue.

But yeah, social media is a great place for people to vent what they usually keep inside their heads in real life into the cyber world because they are in a semi-anonymous program.

Well, I meant how GamerGate seems to attract the worst kind of trolls and hackers. This guy was painting a bulls-eye on his head when getting involved.

Lol I didn't pay attention to the eyebrows till you mentioned it. Whoever did that did put him in a tough place though. Internet is going to be hard on him for a long time. ( along with tons of relatives who are going to ask questions for days... Indian relatives are not likely to shut up easily..). God help him if he meets some crazy simpleton on the street who has only seen his first image and didn't pay attention to the fact it was edited.

You have to admit that's a pretty damn good photoshop though. How did they take off the vest?

I mean, it's not like staying anonymous on the internet is too hard if it's become that big of a problem. The dude seems pretty calm about it and looks like a guy that can laugh at himself.

So a guy that have been spreading lies, insulted people for no other reason that they have a hobby where they like to play video games (Gamers are absolute garbage like I have been saying for a full year) who have also called gamers terrorists are now experiencing the exact same thing "being smeared" and falsely accused of doing something he hasn't done.

I think there is a saying that sums this up pretty neatly: Karma is a ***** if you yourself are one.

Of cause I don't condone what was done to him, but on the other hand he himself have smeared thousands of people for more than a year, calling them terrorists, pedophiles, KKK members, neo nazies and the worst scum of the earth, so no matter what happens to him, even if he ends up being assaulted on the street I can't and won't feel sorry for him, he is just as bad as the person that made that Photoshop image.

and lets be honest here what is more likely.

the person that made this image is a 3'rd party troll that just did it for the lolz.

or the person that made the image is a supporter of free-speech, artistic freedom and wants there to be no corruption in gaming media.

try and think about it, what do you think is more likely?

OT: Ignorance is bliss. This proves hatred is easy to corrupt them. No wonder this world is crazy.

How can people believe the faked image? Unless i'm very much mistaken, the Quran cannot be used to take selfies.
"it was published on the front page of one of Spain’s largest newspapers and used by two Italian newspapers. An Italian TV channel with nearly 2 million Twitter followers also posted the image......

What can be used for selfie or not would depend on personal interpretation and belief so I doubt people were concerned much till some started tracing back the image or contacting the guy in question himself for him to respond.

he himself have smeared thousands of people for more than a year, calling them terrorists, pedophiles, KKK members, neo nazies and the worst scum of the earth, so no matter what happens to him, even if he ends up being assaulted on the street I can't and won't feel sorry for him, he is just as bad as the person that made that Photoshop image.
Source?

And it's not about he only- the image has been use by media outlets of all kind without an investigation. An example of poor journalism is also a concern here.

the source, just look at his twitter feed, look at the articles he have commented on, he himself lied to journalists and have pushed a false agenda.

don't trust media, they are almost all corrupt an pushing their own agenda (the sole reason for GG's existence is yellow journalism and journalists pushing their own ideologies on to their readerbase, and lets not forget SJW'ers that simply lie and push a false narrative to get publicity, zoey quinn and anita sarkisian are 2 prime examples of this.
