Ignoring the data book and going off of what we have seen, not taking anything away from Kakashi, but Shikamaru is on a higher level of intelligence. but both are smarter than most from the village if u ask me.

I think that Itachi has more battle-smarts in that he's more perceptive about others techniques.

Shikamaru is smarter when it comes to using his own efficiently.

Though if they were to both play Shougi, then Shikamaru would win. Probably a higher IQ, but that of course does not mean that Itachi is stupid. You are just putting him against possibly the 2nd smartest ninja in Naruto.

Shikumaru is way smarter than itachi. That being said itachi is no fool he is in 2nd place somewhat sharing the place with minato, and since Kakashi is considered to be nearly as smart as to shikumaru than him too is somewhta 2nd and 3rd place.

Itachi is an analytical genius and can get himself out of tough jutsu like Nagato's moon thingy (shinra tensei?)

Shikamaru is a tactical genius. Good for war strategies and if he plans ahead, he can make his shadow techniques very dangerous.

Shikumaru is way smarter than itachi.... No offence, but shikumau is a tactican he read's between the lines for every move he make's he plan's for it and well alway's be two steps ahead of anyone. Even if he is battle he can turn event's his way.

I would go with Shikamaru, it was stated that Shikamaru in a bind, can think on about 200 strategies quickly, and pick the best one of them all at that very same moment, stated by Asuma on his fight with Hidan, Itachi is also smart, but he takes time to prepare for battle beforehand, Itachi creates a perfect strategy for battle like Shikamaru, but Itachi does before battle, again Shikamaru can think in the middle of battle, I don't think we have seen Itachi to think on his feet like Shikamaru does, so I go with Shikamaru.

itachi is smart..but when u say he is battle-smart yes he is..but dont forget..its his sharingan tht helps him alot...his sharingan reads peoples movement and thts allows to know his enemys weakness
