Signature Techniques & Useless Techniques

Question ; Working on a long term anime project but I'm came to a question I couldn't answer myself, is there a purpose to a character having 100 or more techniques when he only uses one or two signature techniques. In most anime's the characters have a limited amount of techniques, relying on the signature move the most, however naruto has introduced the theme of god-like characters learning hundreds of moves, but say for instance kakashi, we have yet to see 100 techniques from kakashi, let alone 1000, isn't that kind of a slap in the face for the reader??

We have yet to see 30 jutsus from Kakashi let alone 100.

It just a way of showing that the character is really diverse and has a jutsu/technique for every situation
