Now we all know Hiruzen only used it to analyze Obito's techniques but is the technique in itself useful in combat in the current manga's standards.

U said that it was used to get intel on Obito and at the same time askng wether it is useful or not.........?
As per current standars it can't kill or Damage a strong opponent but it would be useful in a sittuation like that(Obito)..!

it is a good technique. those who are immortal(Oro and Hidan) or has strong body(A,Tsunade,3rd raikage) or who have destructive attacks(Onokisjinton) can only escape it. kages like trollkage,4th kazekage cannot survive this attack for the most part.

In hiruzens defense, Obito did pretty well with giant shurikens vs hachibi

Clearly little to no attack gonna work successfully on Juubito

It has it's uses

Can be used to test a persons Offense/Defense/Speed to see what techs they use and so on, Can be used to create an opening/distraction due to the person Needing to Dodge. Guess it's good for Killing a group of fodder i guess.

Obviously compared to Tbb's this tech doesn't blow up mountains or anything, But even a small assed Kunai can kill even the most elite. So tanking this tech without any defensive jutsu isn't really an option, for most people anyway.
