Shrouded In Darkness

Chapter 3
Ten Years Later

Previous Chapters

It's been ten years. Ten years since that tragic day that could change a young man's future later on in his life. Ten years of silence, a decade where all the chaos, hatred and darkness seemed to be exiled. But far from it, trials and tribulations has just begun. A peaceful town will witness the wake of a certain being and all people who look through the eyes of the Corvus will know the true meaning of fear, that boy sure felt it. Many things occurred as a result to a town population being diminished to nothing. Government organizations began more tight and severe to any crimes that would come close to a massacre big or small. When this story reached the media, the public was outraged but scared for their safety and their loved ones. Treston became Treston Mustang, foster son to a honorable man Lt. Leon Mustang of Crony Police Department. Leon knew some truth of what happened to Treston and he did the best he could to protect him and make him feel better at least steer him away from being a complete psychopath. He didn't turn to a shrink better yet he treated him by himself surrounded him around a good group of people, a good school a positive environment. It was just up to Treston to choose who he wanted to be. Leon would accept him no matter what. He loved Treston like flesh and blood.

Sleep, an action that everyone loves participating in. Distant from the world and it's problems. You can dream of anything you want or nothing at all. Treston's head was buried in his pillow, drool seeped from his mouth created a moist puddle on the cloth of course he wouldn't notice this he was too busy enjoying his slumber. Blankets were wrapped around him, the feel of a cold breeze and warm fuzzy blankets was a good mixture. Treston could sleep here for hours. His phone rang, that annoying noise that indicated that someone wanted something from him. Mostly likely his dad. Treston hated to be bothered. The first few calls he couldn't hear but finally the pestering ringtone made it through his ear. Groaning he lifted himself from bed sitting on the edge he forced himself to his night table where his fancy touchscreen smart phone laid. Treston read the text was lit up by the phone. ALICE. Treston let out a smile, disconnected the phone from it's charger he answered the call putting it to his ear.

"Hey". As an eighteen year old boy, Treston had a calm but clear tone of voice it sounded calmer than most times because he recently just woke up. Treston giggled as he listened to Alice go on and an on about how much fun they'll have being roommates and all. Yes, college so soon, they both graduated at seventeen an early age.

They were close friends since toddler years. It was obvious that there bond could never be broken. "Alice, calm down. We'll do all that. Just let me get ready. Alright. Ha, bye Alice."

His voice now sounded hysterical and more playful. Hanging up the phone he set it on the night stand and entered the bathroom staring at his reflection in the clear mirror. Treston has grown into a healthy looking man. His build is lean he's grown into an average height but his face features are quite the same. His black -short straight shaggy hair but instead of his eyes filled with innocence, they're sharp his deep green irises bringing out his good looks that Leon always seem to point out.

Lt Leon Mustang, the middle aged man head flat out on the desk, just like his foster son drool from his mouth enjoying his slumber. He hears a rattling of a door. Leon's eyes opened alerted he sat up quickly rubbing his eyes and wiping the drool from the corner of his mouth. A bald man entered the room, his beer gut could still be seen with the black suit he wore.

"LT is slacking hm?" Rubbing the back of his head he giggled nervously.

"No, No No. Not at all Chief. The bald's men eyebrow raised. "Good".

The chief of police set a folder on Leon's desk. "What's this?" Leon pulled it close to himself and opened curiously. "Weekly crimes. Get to it Lt. The uptight bald man turned away gripping the handle but before he left he turned back to Leon.

"That kid of yours, it's been exactly ten years since you found him strolling in here right?" A warm smile appeared on the Father's face. "Yeah, I'm glad he did ya know? Never knew someone like me could be so lucky." Chief gave Leon a fake smile before leaving.

Munching of fries could be heard along with crunching of a juicy burger you could hear the pickle and bacon between the bun snap as Treston went along enjoying his meal. Beside him was a young woman about the same age as him. She had light brown long hair peachy skin almost pale she wore black thin glasses. This girl was a sight to look at but Treston didn't notice how beautiful she was. Treston and Alice were only friends a close net relationship, a bond that could never be broken. They did almost everything together. After swallowing a mouthful of good cooked meat he broke the silence.

"We got lucky, I really thought I was going to share a room with psycho. Unfortunately I have you instead". A small chuckle escaped his lips, showing the playful side of him.

Alice couldn't help but smile at the comment he made. She shoved him playfully. "You *******". Her voice was delicate and sweet.

He munched on the last of his fries. "Well isn't this a drag? More school. As if I hadn't had enough of this." Treston stood up quickly from the floor. Treston reached out his hand to the sitting Alice helping her up.

"Lets finish up cleaning." Alice was organized she wanted everything clean and spiffy something Treston was pestered about since he was always the lazy type.

Treston walked over to a dusty box in the corner that caught his eye. He crouched wiping the dust from the box, particles now floating in the air. After opening the top he looked through just finding irrelevant toys he never played with in his life not even as a toddler. He felt something soft underneath all the items and pulled forcing it out. All the features of this particular item was familiar. A dark brown shade to this soft plushie toy. A teddy bear, the same stuffed animal that kept him comfort through the endless nightmare that occurred ten years ago. Treston's eyes widened, his irises grow smaller and an expression of disbelief and even fear was upon him. The same fear from when he was just a little boy. The fear that crawled on him like strands of shadows. The stuffed animal that would give him comfort now made his stomach turn. He didn't change he was the same back then. Treston was paralyzed by fear which made him angry, he tried his best to mask the emotions he felt in that very moment.

"Hey, Tres? You okay?" Alice called him several times but he didn't answer he finally reacted when her soft and delicate touch hit his shoulder. He dropped the stuffed animal it hit the floor making a silent noise.

Alice frowned she knew what was going on with him. Treston told Alice everything, she told more shit to Alice then he would ever tell Leon.

"It's been ten years, since then?" His frightened look dwindled. "Yeah." Treston's eyes looked down as he faced his best friend. "Ten ****ing years, and I'm still the same. Nothings changed." He clenched his fist tight. "You're wrong. You've changed. You told me that you were in a dark place back then, lonely. I don't see that anymore Tres."

Alice suddenly moved forward, wrapped her arms around Treston her embrace reassured him. "It's okay to fear, it lets us now that we're alive." He rested his chin on her shoulder as he closed his eyes. The fear, the pain, anger and sorrow were all gone dismembered from his being. Alice was his salvation.

Leon ruffled through the papers that he received from Chief, all of the crimes that were enlisted in this folders were nothing put petty crimes Leon was interested in big time shit. But he paused and found himself with a CD, he most of overlooked he didn't notice it. His curiously sky rocketed. Footage of a crime inserting the disc in the player he turned on the television and patiently waited. The footage wasn't really clear it had a blur to it but visible. The footage showed a group of policemen engaging in conversation it would be best to imply that it was a slow day. Suddenly faint cawing could be heard, Leon didn't take his eyes off for one second. An enormous flock of birds specifically crows swooped down on the four officers and began attacking it was a horrendous sight because the men were defenseless that evening away from any witnesses yet someone recorded this. The Corvus birds pecked and pecked until each officer dropped. Leon couldn't believe his eyes as much as he wanted to hurl he had to continue watching for the deceased police men's sake. The last 20 seconds of the footage consisted of the dead corpses and a man walking over the corpses as if it was nothing, the crows instantly flew away and some even rested on the silhouettes' shoulders. The man was covered in black clothing no distinct features were to be seen. Leon just sat in his chair, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and questions now arise in his head. Why did the chief not tell me about this? Who was this man? And the question that was at the top of his head. What exactly am I dealing with?

(Sorry, if this one is too lengthy. The next might be shorter with more things happening.)

Ah, a timeskip, I see:) Certainly interesting development. Wonder what'll happen to Treston now that a decade has passed.

Some grammar, spelling mistakes, and you might wanna separate the dialogue more. Make it easier to read, y'know? It's a hassle, I know, but try to take the time to fix your errors. It can be a real buzzkill reading through those, as most of the stories on here show us. Just some tips:)
