Nah, in the gas stations and those Hudson News shops in the subways, food trucks/stands, delis, shops in certain areas of Manhattan/Queens, etc.

And it's not really only about race. They want to know where you're from because everyone knows everybody somehow, somehow (like, they assume you're from India). It only happens from people who are older, probably immigrated, I dunno.
