Shouldn't Gai be 2 years older than Kakashi?

No. Just because you graduated early, it doesn't mean that you're older.
They're all the same age. But became those ranks at different points in time.

This... I assume Kakashi just trained on his own before he got a team leader so he could be with people his age.
When Kakashi graduated (5) everyone else was 5/6 but just hadn't graduated yet.
Kakashi was around 9/10 years old when everyone else graduated but he just must not have had a team leader until Obito and Rin graduated, when everyone else was given a team leader.

Kakashi became a chunin at age 6, that was in the databook and manga. Well, at the flash back we saw Anko and Hayate were participating and they were 1 and 3 respectively like choft said. Kishi just messed up, he forgot what he wrote.

The databooks are correct, it's the manga that has a loophole.

Kakashi graduated at age 5, promoted to chunin at age 6.

Gai graduated at age 7, chunin at age 11.

They fought in the chunin exams....which makes no sense what-so-ever.

My point is that I don't trust databook ages, since chapter 599 shows major flaws in them as I've already explained. I believe that they are the same age too, but I'm not sure how old they were when they graduated or when they became Chuunin, because the databook is flawed.

My post was really directed at people who might challenge me saying: "lol u noob da databook waz writn by kishi thrfore da ages r correctz."

They are all "around" the same age. Kakashi graduated first and became a chunin. Later on the rest of the gang re took the exams and graduated at later ages.

In chapter 599 there was many time skips, as represented by clothe and height change.

What I mean by around, is they have different birthdays. One person will become a year older than someone before another person.

Don't hurt your selves over thinking this. Just because he graduated earlier doesn't mean he's younger (Kakashi). It simply means he graduated earlier. Its basically like saying this:

I'm 16. My friend is the same age. I skip two grades and graduate to University by 17 while my friend is 17 still in High School. We are the same age but I am ahead in terms of academic standing (Him being in High School and me in University). Same thing with Kakashi. He graduated earlier while everyone else graduated at similar times but he was still the same age.
