on reinstituting exiling? I feel it's a very underused method now that would really be helpful. Come on, be honest there's at least one person from your country who's been an ass enough you'd love to be able to vote them out of your country and people forever right? Am I the only one?

Donald Trump is the only one who should be exiled but then again he would only become someone else's issue once he leaves the US.
But I feel like it's outdated because if we learn anything from history the person could simply leave the island or whatever just like Napoleon did then go back to their activities especially if they still have loyal followers.

Yes in rare occasions when you try to exile a charismatic conqueror like that but the average exilee? won't have those abilities. Also wasn't Napolean exiled but allowed to take a lot of his stuff. Anyway I feel like countries could start flourishing if they were allowed to do this from time to time based on the crime. What's a bigger deterrent for theft, knowing you'll go to jail for 5 years come out to your home state, friends and family or knowing you're getting kicked out with no means to reach a new land, no way to know they'll even take you and no connection allowed to any citizen of said country?

They exiled Napoleon, and he just attempted another insurrection. Authors exiled themselves, and wrote to bring others to their way of thinking. Exile is meh.

Where could you exile someone, when most places are preoccupied? Not to mention the way you describe exile isn't scary to most people not to mention that's what most jails and prisons are already like. You have romanticized ideas about exile that's for sure.

And time to time exile would allow them to play favorites and people to use it for corrupt reasons because due to them being exiled there is no way for them to appeal and so on. Not to mention if no one is there to watch them it would turn even more deadly when they separate into groups as people naturally do and have to survive on the land which would run dry. And transporting materials as well as food would become dangerous plus who would work a gig where if you died no one would notice and where could you spend your money. And again due to lack of supervision they would be so mistreated because they can abuse their power everyday if they choose. And just because it important the cost and money needed would bankrupt some places.

But these are just a few points there's plenty of things I was to lazy to type. And these are the reasons that Exile is outdated and just plain not used.

Exile is pointless. Why would you want to avoid a problem by simply pushing it away from yourself, into the hands of someone else? It doesn't solve anything. Just deal with the problem yourself, easy as that.

Do you know how exiling worked? The place they go doesn't need to be uninhabited and the government doesn't choose where to send them the exiled chooses where they go, if they've been exiled the government just threatens them with punishments if they try to return and are caught. This is all opinion and you obviously disagree but if you think being sent away on your own with no guarantee of food or shelter for the rest of your life is less scary then spending time in a government ran facility with food and amenities provided for a set amount of time I question how well you've thought about it.

There is a way to appeal, the same way we appeal rulings today. It would still be a court process, you're talking like I'm saying tie them up in the middle of the night put them on a boat and push it out to sea. If found guilty of a crime worthy of exile it could be a punishment, then the exiled could appeal, if upheld they could stay. Simple as that.

As for breaking into groups see my previous concerns about your understanding of how exiling works. You talk as if you're under the impression we'd be sending them to a small deserted island. They could go to Mexico, England, Australia wherever they can get themselves too. There wouldn't be anybody taking materials they've been exiled, it would be on them to get whatever they need that's how exiling works, they can do this by foraging for it themselves or by joining a new society/country.

You're not talking about exiling you're talking about making a prison state like England did with Australia. That's not the same thing at all.

What you're talking about isn't exile but sending someone out to sea to die.:hint:
