From what we've seen so far, Madara has been known to be arrogant and prideful of himself. His ego would prevent him from retreating. However, now that he knows his body is no longer an Edo Tensei, he may show us a more strategic and conservative side, but I still doubt he'll retreat.

Actually there is Hashirama there and he defeated Madara (+ rinnegan this time) again. It's a bad situation for Madara.

Madara's plan was a lifetime in the making. It hit a point of no return when Obito declared war in his name. Madara cannot solo the stabilized nations nor solo gather the tailed beasts to one area, and all of his resources have been used up. He NEEDS this momentum he has right now.

Besides that, he has no need to retreat due to lack of position. He has the setup to control Hashirama, and if Naruto and Sasuke hold enough power to take out a Juubi Jin, then Hashi + Rinnegan Madara will just be overwhelming.
